This is a good article but the sin that leads to death, the 'unpardonable sin' is the sin that the person will not repent of committing. That is what makes it unforgiven. Another point: When Jesus forgave, especially when he healed and some healings were in forgiveness of a physical law that had been broken, He said "Go and sin NO MORE lest a greater thing come upon you". This scripture is totally ignored by most people today. When someone if forgiven he is to forsake that old way and be a new creature and walki n newness of life. I have seen people argue because they want to stay in the sin, saying they have already been forgiven. Yes, God has forgiven you but He has also told you to not do it again. A huge point was made about marriage and divorce. When you divorce, you are breaking the marriage covenant with the person you married and with God. God ordained marriage. He sid that there are only rare cases where it is permissable to divorce. But this is vital: When you are divorced, if you remarry, the act of intimacy with the new person is the very act of adultery. Because in the eyes of God, you are still 'bound' in marriage to the original mate. Each marriage must be examined because Jesus and the Old testament shows what was a valid reason to be allowed out of a marriage. But most people today are not divorcing for those reasons. And when they remarry, they are committing adultery and as long as they remain with that new person they are continuing to do so. Read the BOOK. This is not easy to accept but it is the Word of God. He says if we love Him we will keep the commandments. Then He tells what they are and mentions not to committ adultery. Many churchs want to sugarcoat the truth and throw out what God says to please their members. But God warns them that those people.s bllod will be on the preachers' hands. Because they are teaching 'soft things, easy to hear'. We have to take God's word literally. We are human and make mistakes and God will forgive a truly repenatant person. BUt that person should stop 'putting Christ to an open shame' by living in the sin he has asked God to wash away with Jesus precious blood.

Good article by Heath! This is the same truth as what I've read in a book by Ernest Angley called "The Unforgiveable Sin" which also shows in depth what Jesus was referring to in the 12th chapter of Matthew. I highly recommend that book for an in depth study on the subject. Saul is a very good example of someone who had even had Christians killed, but God forgave him and he became a great Apostle of Jesus. There are many in prisons today that may think that God will never forgive them, but look what God did for Saul (who later his name was changed to Paul).

Jonathan,

Good questions. The sin that leads to death in 1 Jn. 5:16 is one that is not forsaken. In other words, a brother who is stubborn in his sin, who is impenitent, will not be forgiven. We cannot pray that an persistent sin be forgiven. We can and must pray that the sin forsaken by or repented of by a Christian is forgiven. The death is eternal death; hell.

This is not the exact same as Hebrews 10:26. There the writer is simply saying that when you sin, you are guilty & separated from God. This goes directly against the denominational doctrine of continual cleansing. When a Christian sins, he is cut off from the Lord...the sacrifice of Christ is of no affect...he must repent and pray for forgiveness to be restored (Acts 8:22-24; 1 Jn. 1:7-10).

Hope this helps.

In 1 John 5:16, John refers to a kind of "sin that leads to death". What kind of sins lead to death? Is this the same type of sin referred to in Hebrews 10:26? Why should we not pray for our brother when he commits this type of sin? What kind of death does this verse refer to?
