The Church, The Saved

By Larry Ray Hafley

Denominationalism is condemned by the fact that the saved are the church. It is not a "thorn in the flesh," but a stake in the heart of sect Dom, for human organizations can only claim reason to exist and subsist if the church is not the saved. But it is, therefore, the idea, the doctrine, that denominations are of God is dealt a death stroke.

Acts 11:21 describes the conversion of Antioch Gentiles, "And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed and turned unto the Lord." Barnabas was sent to Antioch by the "church which was in Jerusalem ... and much people was added unto the Lord" (Acts 11:22-24). Barnabas sought Saul and together they "assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people" (Acts 11:26). The ones called "the church" are referred to as those who (1) "believed and turned to the Lord" and as those (2) "added unto the Lord." Thus, those turned, added ones were "the church," and the church is the saved (Acts 2:47). Denominationalism, then, is made vain and declared void.
