The Fool

By Connie W. Adams

There are several kinds of fools described in the Bible, but the, biggest fool of all is the one identified by the Psalmist who said "The fool hath said in his heart there is no God" (Psa. 14:1). The number of fools seems to be on the increase for more and more people are denying the existence of God. Consider these evidences for the existence of God:

(1) ARGUMENT FROM CAUSATION. Every effect must have a sufficient cause. The first cause must be supreme and must be personal. How could an impersonal force produce a personal, thinking, feeling being such as man? Sir James Jeans said "The universe begins to look more like a great thought than a great machine."

(2) ARGUMENT FROM DESIGN. "The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth his handiwork" (Psa. 19: 1). The orderly arrangement of the planetary systems, the seasons, the laws of cell nourishment, these and many more testify to the presence and work of a great designer. Mathematical laws presuppose a mathematician. Chemical formulae presuppose a chemist. An orderly universe presupposes the existence of God.

(3) ARGUMENT FROM MAN'S MORAL NATURE. If there is no God, where did man secure his concepts of right and wrong? How does one account for conscience? Why does man have a conscience while a dog or a horse has none? Atheism cannot account for man's higher nature.

(4) UNREASONABLENESS OF ATHEISM. Atheism must assume that matter is eternal, that natural laws are eternal, that all things came by chance, that life came from non4ife and that mind is the product of matter. It is far more reasonable to believe that we are the offspring of God and therefore subject to his rule in our lives (Acts 17:28).
