Thoughts On Marriage

One of the toughest things in life for many of us is our marriage. This is not to say we do not like our marriage, though some do not. It is not to say marriage is bad or impossible to find happiness in. What it means is that marriage is worth something. You know the saying, “Nothing worth having is free.”

God founded marriage (Gen. 2:18-25). He did this for the benefit of mankind. A good marriage blesses the man, the woman, any and all children, and society at large. No nation or people can long exist without good marriages. Too, our marriages are a tremendous factor in our eternal destiny.

The challenge and difficulty is for us to apply God’s principles in our marriages. God is clear about them, so it is not His fault (2 Pet. 1:3; 1 Cor. 14:33; Eph. 3:3, 4). Rather, we are too selfish and stubborn to do what God says. Society influences us away from the Lord’s will in our marriages and we go along with it all too often.

So, what do we do?

We commit to learning and doing God’s will in our respective roles as husbands and wives (Eph. 5:22-33). We make our marriages the top priority next to our devotion to God. Our jobs, hobbies, and even our children do not come before the relationship we have with our spouse. Will you commit to this in your marriage?
