The Jesus Only Persuasion on the Godhead - Exposed (1)

For the next few months we will be dealing with the Jesus Only persuasion of the Godhead. Since this study will be in several different issues, you will need to keep and read all of them, and when they are finally completed, I believe you will have enough material to answer those who hold the position as a matter of faith.

This subject is easier believed than it is fully understood. All that we may know about God or the Godhead is revealed in the Bible, and the Bible itself says that God is past finding out. Job said in job 11:7-9, "Canst thou by searching find out God? Canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? It is as high as heaven. What canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea." Isaiah said in Isaiah 55:8-9, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither as your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." Thus we have to depend on God for any information about himself and the Godhead. Moses wrote in Deut 29:29, "The secret things belong unto the Lord: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, that we may do the words of this law."

Man might speculate, or guess about God and the Godhead, but it would be to no avail. We can only know God by that which he has revealed concerning himself by his Spirit. Paul said in 1 Cor. 2:10-11, "For God hath revealed them unto us by his spirit: for the spirit searcheth all things, yea, - the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God." Hence, in this study, we are going to find out what God has revealed about himself and the Godhead. We are going to learn what the word Godhead means; about the three distinct personalities in the Godhead; what the oneness people say about their own position and why their teaching concerning it cannot be so. We are also going to learn what is meant by such passages as I John 5:7-8.
