New Staff Writers Added

Mike Willis
The continuation of any group depends upon the men who are part of that group. Some churches have tried to assure the faithfulness of future generations by writing a “creed in the deed.” However well-intentioned such actions have been, they have had little effect in preserving the faithfulness of the next generation. The only security a church, paper, or college has is in its members being committed to sound doctrine.

With that in mind, the Guardian of Truth Foundation is trying to keep men who are committed to sound doctrine on its Board and on the staff of Truth Magazine. There have been times when men left our board and staff because they are not pleased with the direction we are going.

A younger generation has moved into maturity since the last time that we added staff writers. There are many good men writing and preaching the truth. We have been privileged to be associated with several of them and have invited some of them to be added to our staff of writers. We are happy to introduce the following new staff writers:

Stan Cox
Stan Cox was born in Lubbock, Texas, in April of 1962, the son of Larry and Linda Cox. He was raised in Odessa, Texas where he met his wife Debbie (Lisenbe) and married her in April of 1982. They have four children: Joshua (2/84), Kendra (11/85), Kaleigh (9/90) and Jeremiah (9/92). Stan began preaching occasionally at the age of 16 and filled the pulpit of the Main St. congregation in Monahans, Texas regularly during his senior year of high school. He worked with brother Bob McDonald for two years in a preacher training program at the Crescent Park church of Christ in Odessa, Texas.

Stan began full-time work with the 3rd St. congregation in Tucumcari, New Mexico, working with that congregation for approximately 2 1/2 years. Following this, he worked for another 2 1/2 years with the West 22nd St. congregation in Odessa, Texas. He has been with the West Side church of Christ in Ft. Worth, Texas since September of 1989, laboring with the faithful Christians there. In January 1998, Stan began publishing and editing Watchman Magazine, one of the first Internet magazines published by brethren.

Stan is actively involved in the education of his children, serving on the PTO Board for several years, as well as holding positions on various committees in the school district.  He currently writes a column for the local weekly paper covering high school sports.

He has numerous interests, including sports, photography, and computers. It was his interest in computers and the potential of the Internet, coupled with is his concern for the people of God that gave rise to Watchman Magazine.

Chris Reeves
Chris Reeves currently preaches for the Memorial Boulevard church of Christ in Springfield, Tennessee, just north of Nashville. He is married to Cheri, daughter of Charles and Vernita Goodall of Tampa, Florida. Chris and Cheri have three children, Jessica, Jacob and Mason.

Chris is 35 years old and has been preaching for over 16 years, starting as a young man encouraged by the godly example of his father, Bill Reeves. Chris is the last of eight children of Bill and Twilah Reeves. His father is known for his diligent preaching in Latin countries and for his boldness in proclaiming the Gospel for over 50 years.  Three of Chris’ brothers, Steve, Tim, and Mark, are also faithful gospel preachers.

Chris has previously preached full time in Camden, South Carolina for  the McRae Road church of Christ. He also worked with the brethren at the Highway Nine congregation in Corpus Christi, Texas, before moving to Tennessee six years ago. Chris received a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Florida College.

The Memorial Boulevard church of Christ, in Springfield, is made up of a group of about 45 dedicated Christians who love the truth and are eager to learn and grow. They are led by two faithful men who serve as elders. A part of Chris’ work includes teaching on the radio and in the local jail. Chris is very encouraged by the unity and the stand for truth found in this local church. The Memorial Boulevard church currently supports Cirilo Sumabal in the Philippines, and Chris has plans to work with Cirilo in the Philippines in November 2001.

From time to time Chris has accepted the invitation to write for Truth Magazine, his first article appearing in 1988. He believes Truth Magazine is a helpful tool that can be used by faithful brethren everywhere to promote the truth of God’s Word. Chris looks forward to contributing regularly to this journal.

Mark Mayberry
Mark Mayberry has served as a full-time gospel preacher for the past 22 years. He has labored with the Hwy. 287 church of Christ in Groveton, Texas (1979-1982), the Chandler Hwy. congregation in Tyler, Texas (1982-1987), the church of Christ in Cooper, Texas (1987-1991), the Warfield Blvd. congregation in Clarksville, Tennessee (1991-1998), and the faithful saints in Alvin, Texas (1998-present). He is married to Sherelyn Mayberry, the daughter of Ernest and Frances Finley of Centerville, Texas. They have two sons, Nathan (age 15) and Ryan (age 9).

I have watched from afar brother Mayberry’s work since he began working with the Hwy. 287 church in Groveton, Texas. That is the congregation in which I grew up. When Mark began working with the church there my parents immediately loved and appreciated Sherelyn and him. When I heard him preach, I was always impressed with the quality of his material. Having that personal acquaintance with him, I have been interested in his works as he has moved from one congregation to another.

Joe R. Price
Joe R. Price has been preaching the gospel for 22 years.  He currently works with the Mt. Baker church of Christ in Bellingham, Washington. He has also worked with churches in Denver, Colorado, Lufkin and Dumas, Texas and Kaysville, Utah.  He has made several trips to Kaunas, Lithuania to help in the gospel work there, and holds several gospel meetings each year. Marc W. Gibson
Marc W. Gibson was born in 1964 to Earl and Billie Gibson of Newcomerstown, Ohio. He spent the first 18 years of his life there and attended the Parkview church of Christ in West Lafayette, Ohio, where he learned the truth from the preaching of such men as Bob Dickey, Paul Ayers, and Fred Shewmaker. Marc determined to be a gospel preacher at age 12 and began preaching in his high school years at neighboring congregations. In the fall of 1982, Marc moved to Florida and attended Florida College (82-84 AA, 85-87 Advanced Diploma, 97-99 BA Religious Studies) and the University of South Florida (86-88, BA History). While living in Tampa, Florida, and worshiping at the Fletcher Ave. church of Christ, he met and married Kellie Hammer in 1988. To this union have been born four children: Katherine (92), Kristina (94), Kimberly (97), and Marc, Jr. [William] (99). After working for a few years as a salesman at a Sears Outlet store, Marc began full-time preaching at Frostproof, Florida (1990-1996) and is currently working with the Lakeland Hills Blvd. church of Christ in Lakeland, Florida (1996-).

Jarrod Jacobs

He was a member of the Ellettsville (IN) church of Christ for several years before leaving to begin preaching on a “full-time” basis in Tennessee. Jarrod’s father is a deacon at the Ellettsville church of Christ, and much of his family on his father’s side are members there as well. While living in Indiana, he participated in a year-long preacher training program at Ellettsville, Indiana which met for three hours each week. Jarrod preached his first sermon in Oblong, Illinois, on December 31, 1991. He preached by “appointment” there until they closed their doors. Jarrod also preached on a monthly basis in Greenwood (White River congregation), Lawrence, Shoals (Mt. He has held gospel meetings in the states of New Mexico, Indiana, South Carolina, West Virginia, Washington, and Tennessee. He has engaged in three debates thus far; one in 1998 on the necessity of baptism, and two in 1999 on the necessity  of baptism and the apostasy question. He edits a weekly teaching bulletin, writes weekly biblical articles in the local newspaper, as well as conducting two 15-minute radio programs each week.
