A Response to Brother Caldwell

Donnie V. Rader
I appreciate the fact that brother Caldwell wanted to comment about the articles that appear in this issue. I only want to make a few observations about his short article.

Brother Caldwell says that brother Jenkins wrote to me asking that I “more adequately document” my references to the brethren I mentioned in the lecture book. My manuscript cited two sermons from Bob Owen that had been well quoted and circulated among brethren. Also, the material referred to by Earl Kimbrough was self-published. Actually, what brother Jenkins asked me to do was to quote from published sources since an academic institution like Florida College does not quote from unpublished sources. He suggested that if I retained the references, he would add an editorial comment. I did retain the references and added web addresses where the two sermons by brother Owen could be found. I suggested to brother Jenkins that since I found other occasions where Florida College publications quoted from unpublished sources (without editorial comment) that such would seem appropriate here. Brother Jenkins’ letter can be found on his web page www.bibleworld.com. Both his and mine can be found on our web page: www. truthmagazine.com.

The reader will notice that brother Caldwell took great exception to statements about the appearance of collusion and the perception that an ambush occurred at Florida College. However, he didn’t say a word about how I was charged with lying, being McCarthyesque, being a Pharisee, etc. There seems to be a double standard here. I remind our readers that brother Caldwell’s article said the reason he would not allow me to respond to brother Owen was, “Such would have been inappropriate in this setting and would not have been allowed.” Since brother Caldwell has made no comment about these charges, I wonder if he thinks that such was appropriate in this setting. If my manuscript had made these kind of charges about the men I mentioned, would it have passed without comment from President Caldwell?
